Burger Project

Burger Project isn't an uncommon name around these parts anymore since its opening in 2015. Although not quite as fancy as eating a burger at Rockpool Bar & Grill, it's still nice to see some high-quality burgers come out at a reasonable price.
Setting up shop in a Macquarie Centre lot that has changed owners a number of times, Burger Project has expanded out of the CBD and is now flipping burgers for the ‘burbs. Having been to the city store, we decided to check out their new store for a local Eatventure.
Whilst not as commanding as their World Square location, the Mac Centre space has been efficiently used. Long, 'beer hall' style tables run the length of their space to squeeze in as many patrons as possible and to give the store that casual burger feel.

When we looked at the Project's menu, there were some serious contenders for our burger fix. The stand-outs for us were the Bacon Project and the Fried Chicken Katsu

The Bacon Project - grass fed beef, bacon, cheese, pickles, onions and secret sauce

The Bacon project was everything you want in a good burger; cheese, bacon, sauce and to top it off a gorgeous medium patty! Regardless of the controversy I'm so happy to see a slight pink in my beef patty rather than have my burger served with grey cardboard. The bacon was perfectly crispy and crunched satisfyingly with every bite. As always with a photogenic burger you can get a little bit of slippage but it wasn't too overwhelming in this case. Well balanced burger, will definitely order again.

Fried Chicken Katsu - free range chicken breast, smoked bacon, coleslaw, pickles, lettuce and Katsu sauce

Whilst not technically a burger, the Chicken Katsu is one of mister.eats top picks for a chicken-filled bun. The fried chicken was beautifully crispy on the outside, and tender and juicy on the inside. The crispness continued in the bacon which also lent some very welcome smoky flavours. The crunch kept coming thanks to coleslaw, pickles and lettuce which all came together to round out the protein. There was just the right amount of Katsu sauce to bring everything together without the milk bun becoming soggy.

Being avid fans of fries we also picked up a serving of their chipotle chilli salt chips. Separately, both elements were great. The chips were crunchy and well fried and the chipotle chilli salt was full of flavour and not too spicy. However, we found the ratio of salt to chips a little bit heavy handed.
Alongside the chips we ordered some chip dip which was everything our hearts desired and more. It was a bacon ranch style combination and we couldn't get enough of it.

The Burger Project also offers some special sodas which we couldn't refuse. They currently have two flavours, passionfruit or strawberry, so we picked one flavour each. Both flavours tasted very similar to real strawberries and passionfruit and were really refreshing when washing down our burgers.

Overall it's pretty tough to fault Burger Project. It's nice to see them expand into other areas too. All the components that go into their burgers are fresh and tasty and their sides aren't bad either. Looking forward to visiting here more often as it's nice to have it so close to home.
I also hear the shakes and ice creams are a must-try on the menu so we'll definitely be back to try the rest of the menu sometime soon.
